That said, wrt does have a ton more features and I've actually got much the same setup: an Archer C9 with an old 802.11n Buffalo router running open-wrt, but I've set it up differently. I've got my modem -> Buffalo WRT -> 24 port switch, with the Archer set up as an access point rather than a router on one of the switch ports.
